A souvenir released by the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) to mark the 50th Shahid Saptah (martyr week) had claimed that 124 top leaders were killed during the period of last one year.
According to sources, the rebels paid tributed to their cadre killed on the border straddling between Chhattisgarh and Telangana. The event, held at an undisclosed forested location, was led by Telangana state committee leader Damodar.
Sources added that a 20-page souvenir was released on the occasion that underlined 124 top leaders including members of the Central Committee and Politburo died in last one year. The CPI (Maoist) admitted that this was the highest ever death reported in a year.
Of the deaths, 69 were killed in encounter while 27 died of ailment. While three died in jail, four were killed in mishap. The rebels claimed remaining were killed in “fake” encounters.
In all, 27 Maoists were killed in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and East Bihar.
