Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday said that the Maoists movement had been confined to a small area following the state government policies.
“With the policy of development, trust and security, the Chhattisgarh government has succeeded in confining the insurgency to a limited space,” Baghel said while addressing a gathering on the occasion of Jhiram Valley Martyrdom Day. The Chief Minister paid rich tribute to the martyrs of Jhiram valley deadly Maoist attack at a function organised in Jhiram Memorial in Lalbagh, Jagdalpur.
A decade ago, the Maoists ambushed the convoy of Congress leaders in Jhiram Ghati (valley). In all, 29 people including top leadership of Congress party namely Vidya Charan Shukla, Nandkumar Patel, Mahendra Karma and others were killed in the incident. The Congress leaders were part of the Parivartan Yatra against the then ruling BJP in Chhattisgarh.
The Jhiram martyrdom day is observed on May 25. “We have been achieving the Parivartan for which our leaders gave the supreme sacrifice,” Baghel said, adding their martyrdom will not go waste. “Our leaders used to talk about the need to bring positive change in the lives of farmers, tribals, youth and women. The leaders, who were determined to bring transformation in the lives of people, are no longer with us. Now, we are accomplishing it,” he added.
The Chief Minister said endowed with rich Sal forests, Bastar would be free from the violence and peace would be restored in the region.
Baghel met the families of the martyrs and presented them with shawl-shreefal. The Chief Minister individually interacted with the family members and enquired about their wellbeing. He assured all assistance from the state government.
