Maoists on Friday afternoon blew up a vehicle of a security force in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district inflicting heavy casualties.

Though the officials have not confirmed the casualties, unconfirmed reports said that seven jawans were martyred in the incident. About 15 jawans of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were on board the vehicle.

The Bastar range Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj P in a brief statement confirmed the incident that a vehicle had been ambushed in Bijapur. The details of the incident would be released later, the statement added.

Sources said the incident took place on Kutru-Bende road in Bijapur district. The rebels triggered a powerful landline mine blast and blew up the vehicle in which security personnel were travelling.  The vehicle tossed several feet following the impact of the collision.

The rebels opened fire after the blast on the security personnel. Sources said 5 jawans were injured in the incident. Of them, the condition of three was reported to be critical.
