Maoists struck at a marriage function and shot dead a Congress worker in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bijapur district on Wednesday night.

The Congress activist has been identified as Ghanshyam Mandavi, husband of Adawali village sarpanch. Sources said that Mandavi reached Tadmed from Kutru to attend a marriage function. The rebels in civilian attire struck at the marriage function and shot at the Congress worker. He died on the spot.

The senior police officials confirmed the incident that took place under the jurisdiction of Kutru police station.

Meanwhile in neighbouring Dantewada district, security forces nabbed four Maoists including member of Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (DAKMS), the frontal wing of the outlawed group.

The other three included the members of Jan Militia, the part-time fighting force of Maoists. The breakthrough was achieved by a team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG) during a routine patrol in Durma village under Jagargunda police station.

Besides two tiffin bombs packed with three-kg explosive each, five gelatin sticks, wireless set and Maoist uniform were recovered from them.

The rebels tried to unleashed terror by placing banners and posters near Padeda bridge on Cherpal road related to celebrating Bhumkal Diwas.
