Maoists killed a youth undergoing treatment of neurological disorders in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Thursday night.

The youth, identified as Arjun Kudiyam, was working with the 22th battalion of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF). He was suffering from serious neurological disorders and was undergoing treatment. Arjun had taken a medical leave of one month for the treatment and was taking rest by staying in his native village Dhanora.

The police today discovered his body on Gangalur-Madkampara road. The senior officials said they were probing when and from where the youth was abducted.

The Gangalur Area Committee of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) had claimed the responsibility of killing the youth. The rebels left a letter on the spot “accusing” Arjun of looting and killing tribals. Terming him as “Jan Dushman (people’s enemy)”, the Maoists said he was punished for the working against the people.

Experts said if the CPI(Maoists) claim to be on war for the people, they should have at least followed the convention established for the conflict. Neither the Geneva Convention nor the International Humanitarian Law justify killing a mentally ill “enemy”.

Last month also, Maoists had brutally killed a villager suffering from mentally illness in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district. The villager, identified as Hemant Bandi, was the resident of Timmapur under Basaguda police station in restive Dantewada district.

The rebels have been indicting and executing the innocent villagers on the suspicion that they are police informers.
