Jagdalpur, February 18

Maoists on Sunday brutally killed a police officer in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bijapur district.

The heinous crime was committed by the rebels amidst Chhattisgarh government-led by the BJP offering peace talks with the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist).

Bijapur Superintendent of Police SP Jitendra Yadav confirmed the incident. The rebels attacked Inspector Tijau Ram Bhuarya while he was on duty at the weekly market of Darbha on Sunday morning. They stabbed the officer with an axe on his head that proved fatal.

Bhuarya was posted in the fourth battalion of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) as company commander. The battalion has been deployed in Darbha Camp of Kutru in Bijapur district.

The officer along with his men was on duty in the market to provide security cover. The rebels in villager’s attire isolated him and carried out the crime. Police suspect the involvement of a small action group of the Maoists cadre behind the incident.
