Ahead of proposed bandh and by-election in Kanker district, Maoists inflicted a reign of terror in the interior area last night.

The rebels have called for bandh in Kanker, Narayanpur and Kondagaon district on November 22 in protest against the killing of its cadre. The by-election in Bhanupratappur is scheduled for December 5.

According to reports, Maoists set a passenger bus on fire in Koylibeda of Kanker district last night. The passenger bus was parked in Koylibeda when armed Maoists struck and set the bus on fire by asking the driver and conductor to get off. The vehicle belonged to Habiba Bus Transport Service.

Sources said rebels left pamphlets on the spot. The incident in the heart of the town created a sense of panic among the people when the incident came to notice Monday morning.

The rebels torched four mobile phone towers and five vehicles in the Antagarh area. The Maoists set a JCB, grader, tractor, bus and 3 mobile towers in Koylibeda area while another tower was damaged in village PV 45 of Pakhanjur police station area. The tower belonged to Reliance, sources said, adding that mobile network had stranded in the entire region.

In the pamphlets dropped on the spot, Maoists had appealed to make bandh a success. The rebels accused the security personnel of killing hardcore Maoists Darshan Padda and Jagesh Salam in a fake encounter.
