MCL airlifts injured coal miners to Hyderabad for treatment

Two coal miners of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), who were injured in a vehicular mishap on Tuesday at Garjanbahal opencast mine in Sundergarh district of Odisha, have been airlifted to Hyderabad for advance treatment.

MCL arranged a chartered air ambulance to shift Dolamani Pradhan, Operator and Niranjan Munda, Operator, who had suffered spinal injury in the accident and undergoing treatment at Fortis Hospital in Raigarh to Hyderabad.

Earlier, a 100 Tonne dumper operating in the mine had collided with an MUV ferrying two Executives and four Operators to the work locations.

The company officials immediately swung into action for rescue and shifted all injured officials and the driver of MUV to the hospital for treatment, where two of them were declared brought dead.

The victims were identified as Jagdish Oram, Deputy Manager (Mining), a resident of Adhapara, Lakhanpur in Jharsuguda and Umakant Patel, Operator, a resident of Balinga, Himgir in Sundergarh districts of Odisha.

The Chairman-cum-Managing Director, MCL has expressed profound grief over the loss of lives in the accident. “I am pained by this irreparable loss to families and our fraternity.  Entire company stands with the family of the victims in this hour of grief. Best of the medical facilities will be made available for speedy recovery of the injured.”  

The company has also initiated an internal inquiry to ascertain the cause of the accident.
