MCL moots Talcher town plan

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur is planning for comprehensive development of Talcher town where one of its major coalfields are located.

Talcher which is also known as the city of black diamond in Odisha contributes approximately 60 per cent of the total coal produced by MCL and has one of the largest coal reserves in India. The Talcher town has a major contribution in ensuring energy security to the nation.

MCL has plans for the comprehensive development of Talcher in terms of transportation, sustainability, public amenities, beautification, clean environment, etc for which MCL has collaborated with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.

IIT Kharagpur had deputed a team to conduct a study on areas that will be covered under development programs. On submission of the report by IIT-Kharagpur, MCL will further take action towards the development of Talcher.

MCL is an entity of state-run mining giant Coal India Limited (CIL).
