Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday had food with the farmer leaders as the talks received a breakthrough to resolve the dispute following agitation against the farm acts.
The ministers joined the farmer leaders during the lunch break at Vigyan Bhawan where the government was holding talks with farmers. Visuals came inside Vigyan Bhavan which showed ministers being served the langar, community meals that the farmers bring with them.
The sixth round of meetings between farmer leaders and the government has concluded with partial breakthrough in the deadlock.
After the meeting, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that two sides reached agreement on two issues relating to proposed electricity law and stubble burning.
“Talks were held in a cordial atmosphere. Mutual agreement reached on two out of four issues on agenda,” Tomar said.
On issues of legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and revocation of farm laws, the farmer unions remain unmoved and are insistent on the demands.
The next meeting will take place on January 4. Tomar also said that discussions on three farm laws, MSP guarantee would continue in the next round of talks.
“Issues related to stubble burning and electricity were sorted in today’s meeting. Two of our main issues still need to be resolved. We’ll discuss topics related to MSP and repealing of 3 Farm laws in the next meeting on 4th January,” Rakesh Tikait, Spokesperson, Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), was quoted by a news agency.
