Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday made a minor reshuffle in the state cabinet and inducted Mohan Markam as a minister.
To execute the process, Dr Prem Singh Sai Tekam was dropped from the cabinet on Thursday. It was necessitated to contain the size of Chhattisgarh cabinet to 13 following Constitutional obligations.
Markam would be holding the office for the shortest term in the history of Chhattisgarh. His tenure in the present term would last for only four months as Chhattisgarh would go to the polls in the year end.
A Member of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly from Bastar’s Kondagaon constituency, Markam was Pradesh Congress Committee President. He was replaced two days ago and Bastar Member of Parliament Deepak Baij was appointed as his successor.
At a function held in the Raj Bhawan’s Darbar Hall today, Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Markam. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, his cabinet colleagues and senior administrative officials were present on the occasion.
Baghel has ensured caste and regional balance while making minor change in the cabinet. Tekam belongs to a tribal community and comes from Surguja region from where three ministers including Deputy Chief Minister T S Singh Deo were in the cabinet.
Markam also belong to tribal community but he came from Bastar region from where only one member was included in the group of ministers.
