Madhya Pradesh police gunned down three hardcore Maoists including a woman rebel in a fierce encounter that took place in Balaghat district on Monday.
The rebels have been identified as Nagesh, Divisional Committee Member carrying a reward of Rs 15 lakh, Manoj and woman member Rame, both Area Committee Members carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh each. The security personnel have recovered the bodies besides one AK-47, one 303 and one 12 bore gun.
Acting on a tip off, the elite Hawk Force of Madhya Pradesh police launched an operation in the Lanji forests under the limits of Lodangi police station in Balaghat district. The jawans came in contact with the rebels at around 7 am. After getting befitting reply, rebels slipped into the forests.
During the search operation, security personnel discovered three bodies on the spot. They were associated with Platoon 56 of the Vistar (expansion) Dalam and Darekasa Dalam. Sources said the hardcore Maoists killed in the operation were working on creating new red corridor between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced gallantry medal and out-of-turn promotion for the jawans involved in the operation that was led by Balaghat Additional Superintendent of Police.
