MP waives off Rs 6400 crore electricity bills generated during COVID period

Bhopal, April 7

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today launched the “Chief Minister’s Electricity Bills Relief Scheme” at Sleemanabad in Katni district to waive off power charges generated during the COVID induced pandemic period.

Electricity bills to the tune of over Rs 6400 crore till August 31, 2020 have been waived off. The state government would pay the bill to the distribution company. In all, 8.8 million consumers across the state would be benefitted.

Chouhan said that the district administration and public representatives should organize camps for waiver of electricity bills in their respective areas and give benefits of the relief scheme to the eligible beneficiaries, who would be handed over a certificate of electricity bill waiver.

He said that the bills of Rs 5929 lakh 44 thousand of Katni district alone would be waived off under this scheme. The Chief Minister said the state government was spending Rs 21,000 crore every year in the electricity subsidy.
