Neighboring Myanmar has handed over to India five terrorists of the group that claimed to have killed Colonel Viplab Tripathi, his wife Anuja and six-year-old son Abir besides four Assam Rifles jawans last month.

Intelligence sources said that the Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft has airlifted them from Myanmar to Imphal. They were arrested a year ago by the Myanmar Army during Operation Sunrise.

On November 13, Colonel Viplab Tripathi, commanding officer of 46 Battalion of Assam Rifles, his wife Anuja, 6-year-old son Abir and four jawans were killed in a joint ambush by PLA and Manipur Naga People’s Front in Churachandpur district of Manipur. The PLA later claimed responsibility for the attack.

Colonel Viplab Tripathi was a resident of Raigarh in Chhattisgarh.

Myanmar handed over five terrorists to India amid fears of a tough stand by the Indian government and a possible surgical strike. The action to hand over the terrorist came nearly a month after the incident.

The five terrorists, who disguised themselves as senior army officers of the outfit, have been identified as Major Koireng, Major Angam, Major Banner, Captain Abi and Captain Devan.

However, sources said that these five terrorists were not involved in the Churachanpur ambush, but their group, the PLA, was involved and had claimed responsibility. During interrogation, the officials are hopeful to get more details about the ambush.

The special plane carrying five Manipur militants from Myanmar landed at the Imphal airport and the PLA cadre guerrillas were immediately taken to an undisclosed location. It is reported that senior officers are questioning them.
