Raipur, October 12
The Narayanpur District Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) visited the worst Maoist-infested pocket of the district to review the progress of road construction projects.
The officials accompanied by the team of the public works department took stock of the under-construction Palli-Barsur Road, which the rebels have been resisting for years. The Maoists are opposing the road infrastructure projects as it would lead to the development of the region and also facilitate the movement of security forces.
Of the 32 km road, 28 km had been constructed while the work for remaining four km was going on at full pace. Of the 60 culverts, only seven were incomplete.
District Collector Rituraj Raghuvanshi and Superintendent of Police Sadanand Kumar today reached Kanhargaon, Kademeta, Kadenar and Bodli, which are considered as hyper sensitive areas. Raghuvanshi directed the officials of the public works department to expedite the works and complete the road construction work by December.
Collector chided the contractor and the supervising officials for the laxity on a few issues. He said that this work should be done with the highest priority. Raghuvanshi said the infrastructure projects in the Maoist-infested pockets were top in the priority list of the state government and hence negligence would not be entertained.
The projects would enable villagers to get the benefit of public welfare schemes including education, employment, health, and government in the area.
Superintendent of Police Sadanand Kumar said that the police administration was ready to provide all possible help for speedy completion of road and other construction works in the district. The role of security forces was most crucial for the completion of the projects following threat from the rebels.
