Prime Minister Narendra Modi has total assets worth over Rs 3 crore while owns no land, houses or cars.

Modi filed his nomination papers from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, seeking mandate for the third consecutive term from the constituency. He arrived at the district magistrate’s office in Varanasi amid a sea of supporters and party leaders.

Clad in a full-sleeved white kurta with white churidar and a blue jacket, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath outside the Kal Bhairav temple, where he offered prayers before proceeding to the nomination center. Over two dozen NDA leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, accompanied the Prime Minister to the nomination center.

Earlier, Modi offered prayers at the Dashashwamedh Ghat on the banks of the Ganges. He also took a cruise to the Namo Ghat.

PM Modi after filing the nomination from Varanasi Lok Sabha seats for the third time, said that it is an “honour” to serve the people of this “historic seat,” adding that in the coming times, the pace of work will get faster. “Filed my nomination papers as a candidate for the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. It is an honour to serve the people of this historic seat. With the blessings of the people, there have been remarkable achievements over the last decade. This pace of work will get even faster in the times to come,” PM Modi posted on X.

He further said that he was honoured by the presence of valued NDA allies in Kashi today.  The Prime Minister said, “I am overwhelmed and emotional. I did not even realise how 10 years passed under the shade of your affection. ‘Aaj Maa Ganga ne mujhe god le liya hai’ (today, Maa Ganga has adopted me).”

In the affidavit, the Prime Minister declared total assets worth Rs 3.02 crore, the bulk of which is made up of a fixed deposit worth Rs 2.86 crore with the State Bank of India. His total cash in hand is Rs 52,920 and he has Rs 80,304 in two bank accounts in Gandhinagar and Varanasi.

Modi has Rs 9.12 lakh as an investment in National Savings Certificates and also owns four gold rings worth Rs 2.68 lakh.

Varanasi will vote in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha election on June 1. The opposition alliance INDI has pitted Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai against the Prime Minister. Rai, who contested the last two Lok Sabha polls from Varanasi, finished third on both occasions
