Pradeep Tandon, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Committee of the National Employers Federation (NEF), has welcomed the decision of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) Board of Trustees to hike the rate of interest.
The Board has decided to increase the rate of interest for EPF Members for the financial year 2023-24 to 8.25 per cent, an increase from the last year’s interest rate. This decision was taken in the CBDT meeting held on Saturday.
Terming it as a great step taken towards social welfare of the working class, Tandon said it also reflected the vision of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to empower them through financial schemes of the Government of India. The increase in the rate of interest for a scheme of social security of the Central Government which would benefit about 5 crore employees, maximum of them in the most popular category of employment.
R K Joshi, Director NEF, welcomed the far sighted vision of the Government to cover all below poverty line by one or other social security schemes whether employed or self-employed, farmers, senior citizens or needy.
