Raipur, November 16
Amity School of Communication organized a webinar on “Press Freedom and the Role of Media in Nation Building” to celebrate National Press Day.
Students of Journalism and Mass Communication at Amity University Raipur had the privilege to interact with the senior Journalist Rajesh R. Joshi, Editor, The Navabharat, Raipur. Joshi, while sharing anecdotes with the students on what constitutes good journalism, described the qualities of a good journalist; he said that Journalism students should focus more on facts and figures.
“One should strive to become a great journalist, not a big journalist,” he said. Elaborating this statement, Mr. Joshi said great journalists are fearless and not obligated to anyone in their reporting; conversely, prominent journalists are often bound to serve vested interests and do biased reporting.
The National Press Day celebration commenced with Saraswati Vandana, as per the culture of Amity University. Prof. (Dr). Suresh Chandra Nayak, Head of Amity School of Communication, delivered the inaugural address. Vice-Chancellor AUC Prof. R. K. Pandey congratulated the journalists on this day. The master of ceremony of the entire event was Anjali Padmakumar, a student of BA-J&MC Third Semester.
Prof. (Dr) Nayak, Head of Amity School of Communication, spoke about the media’s vital role in building the nation. He also stressed the critical need for unbiased reporting and urged the readers to be more vigilant about Fake news. At the end of the program, Joshi asked students for a free-wheeling discussion on pressing issues confronting the Press these days, making the event more interactive.
A vote of thanks was given by Satyabrata Das, Assistant Professor, ASCO. Students and faculty members of the school were present during the event. The entire program was very interactive and exciting.
