The on-going feud in the Punjab Congress today took a new spin when Party Vice President Rahul Gandhi denied any meeting with Navjot Singh Sidhu.
The former cricketer-turned-politician had raised a revolt against Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. The Congress high command had sent a panel to Punjab besides Singh himself visiting New Delhi to resolve the issue as the party had to face a crucial state election next year.
Navjot Singh Sidhu’s camp had announced that he would “meet the Gandhis” in Delhi. The meeting was seen as a crucial development in Punjab politics. But Rahul Gandhi himself put all speculations to rest and claimed today that he had no meeting with Sidhu.
Sidhu supporters had announced that he would meet Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also on Tuesday. He had earlier held a detailed meeting with Sonia Gandhi’s three-member team to resolve infighting ahead of the Punjab election next year.
Last week, Amarinder Singh met with the committee for the second time in Delhi. Despite the political turmoil with the party, Congress insiders claimed that Amarinder would be the party’s face in the ensuing state polls.
