In a surprise turn of event in Punjab Congress Tuesday, the newly appointed state Congress Chief Navjot Sigh Sidhu announced his resignation from the position.
“The collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab,” Sidhu said in his letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and posted a copy in Twitter.
“Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Will continue to serve the Congress,” he said.
Sidhu, who was instrumental in the ouster of Amarinder Singh as Chief Minister, was reportedly disappointed with the new government headed by Charanjit Singh Channi that came to power just 10 days ago. Sidhu thought Channi would act accordingly to his wishes that Sidhu could not see in the selection of cabinet ministers and the appointment of Punjab’s new Advocate General, Amar Preet Singh Deol.
Interestingly, Congress high command forced Amarinder Singh to resign reportedly to “satisfy” Sidhu. Now, Amarinder is all set to join the BJP, Sidhu has retreated from the field.
