Chandigarh, October 17
Nayab Singh Saini took oath as the Chief Minister of Haryana for the second consecutive term at a ceremony in Panchkula on Thursday afternoon.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP bigwigs and NDA partners will be in attendance besides Chief Ministers of the BJP and alliance-ruled states.
The BJP’s choice of day for the swearing-in ceremony is significant as it is Valmiki Jayanti. Sage-poet Valmiki is the author of the Hindu epic Ramayana and a revered figure, especially among Dalits. Saini belongs to the other backward community (OBC).
Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Saini, who became the chief minister for the second time.
Hours before the ceremony, Saini visited the Valmiki Bhawan and offered prayers at a gurdwara and the Mansa Devi temple in Panchkula.
Nayab Singh Saini was on Wednesday unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party in Haryana, paving the way for his swearing-in as the Chief Minister in Panchkula tomorrow. Hours later, Saini (54) called on Governor Bandaru Dattatreya at Raj Bhavan to stake claim to form the government.
