Rourkela, May 29
Traffic and Raw Material Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant has been taking several initiatives to enhance the equipment availability and reduce the down time to keep pace with the production and performance of the Plant.
On 29th May, 2024 another new initiative of the Department, i.e the new outer loop track for Hot Strip Mill-II was inaugurated by S R Suryawanshi, ED (Works). Present on the occasion were M N V S Prabhakar, CGM (Services), Hiralal Mohapatra, GM In-Charge (T&RM), many other CGMs, Sectional Heads and other Officers and employees of the Department. This significant infrastructure augmentation, accomplished using internal resources, aims to de-bottleneck the finished product dispatch process.
Suryawanshi extended his heartfelt thanks to the team for their unwavering dedication and hard work, which made this project possible using internal resources. He highlighted that the new outer loop track, spanning 450 meters and featuring two sets of tracks, represents a strategic enhancement in RSP’s infrastructure.
By providing loop line, new track ensures safer operations at the sheet shearing line, reducing the risk of accidents and improving overall workplace safety. Similarly, Railway rakes will now experience better turnaround times, boosting efficiency in product dispatch.
The facility can now handle an additional 20 to 22 wagons per day, enhancing the overall dispatch capacity. It also helps in de-congesting the yard, making operations smoother and more streamlined.
The augmentation allows for increased coil loading for internal consumption by the mills, facilitating better resource utilization. This apart, the need for shunting operations is minimized, leading to more efficient railway logistics.
Hiralal Mohapatra, GM In-Charge (T&RM) thanked the management and all associated departments for their unflinching support.
