NIA nabs wanted female Maoist cadre in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, January 30

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a female Maoist cadre wanted in the deadly Bijapur encounter in which 22 policemen were martyred in 2021.

The attack by armed members of CPI (Maoist) ambushed a police party and security force personnel near Tekalgudiyam village under PS Tarrrem, District-Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) in April 2021. While 22 policemen were martyred in the incident, over 30 personnel were injured.

The case was initially registered by Tarrem Police Station of Bijapur district vide FIR no. 06/2021 and was later re-registered by NIA on June 5, 2021. During investigations, an input was received that one wanted female Maoist was hiding in the Bhopalpatnam area of Bijapur district.

Immediately, an NIA team from Raipur was mobilized and deployed on the operation in which the wanted female Maoist was successfully apprehended, the NIA said in a statement. She was identified as Madkam Ungi alias Kamla, daughter of Joga. She was a resident of Muthamadgu under Pamed police station in Bijapur.

The arrested female Maoist has been produced before the NIA Special Court in Jagdalpur.

The further investigations in this case are in progress, the NIA said.
