NIA nets Pakistan bond in Darbhanga blast

Darbhanga railway station explosion on June 17 had links with Pakistan with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) claiming the terrorists involved in conspiracy had received Rs 1.6 lakh in advance through hawala from Pakistan.

NIA on Friday produced the two persons, Imran Malik and Mohd Nasir Khan, who were arrested by NIA at Secunderabad before the special court of NIA.G S Malhotra, special judge sent the two to the NIA remand for July 9. NIA had demanded ten days custody.

The two were brought from Hyderabad by a commercial flight in the morning and taken to the ATS headquarters near Eco Park here. Senior officers of the ATS questioned them for more than two hours before allowing the NIA to produce them to the special court.

Court was told by the NIA that the terrorists had planned to put the Secunderabad-Darbhanga express train on fire by putting chemicals in a parcel containing garments sent by the two brothers.

In another development, NIA on Friday took into custody two more persons from Kairana in Shamli district of UP in connection with the Darbhanga blast. They were identified as Mohammad Salim Ahmad and Kafil. Both were detained by UP ATS for the last two days.

According to the NIA here, preliminary investigation had revealed that Salim and Kafil were key conspirators in the case. The arrested accused had met at the residence of Haji Salim in February this year and finalised plan to plant an IED in a running train so casualties and extensive damage to the property can be caused.

Mrs Chhaya Mishra, special public prosecutor of NIA, said the two persons arrested in Shamli today were being brought here and would be produced before the NIA special court. She said since the offences committed by the four were of grave nature, relevant provisions of UAPA and railways act would be added in the case.

Haji Salim is a close associate of Pakistan based LET operatives and was acting as key intermediary between Iqbal Kana and the arrested accused. He was also involved in channelising funds sent by Pakistan that were used in executing the terror acts, NIA officials said.

The two persons arrested at Shamli would be produced before a special NIA court here on Saturday. NIA has got five days remand from Lucknow court. Preliminary investigations and questioning of the arrested persons confirmed the conspirators were to receive Rs one crore after successful explosions in the running train.
