The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reportedly registered an offence in the Manipur ambush case.

Assam Rifles Commanding Officer Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his wife Anuja and six-year-old child Abeer besides four AR jawans were killed in an ambush carried out by PLA militants at the Thinghat area in Manipur on November 13.

Colonel Viplav belonged to Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district. His younger brother is also a serving officer in the Indian Army.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had given a green signal to the NIA a couple of days ago. The premier investigating agency had sent a proposal to the MHA to register a case and probe the matter.

Sources in the ministry said that the central investigation agency had reportedly sent intimation to Manipur police in this regard.

The NIA has registered cases under various sections of IPC, including wage war against the government of India along with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
