Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday was flooded with complaints of land grabbing by influential people in different parts of the state.

According to the national crime records bureau data, 65 per cent of the crimes in the state are related to land disputes. During the weekly Janta Darbar of Chief Minister on Monday,72 complaints were received from people who came from different parts of the state. Nitish Kumar received their complaints and forwarded them to the principal secretaries.

The complainants alleged the local revenue officers abetted land grabbing by the influential persons. According to the residents of Sitamarhi in North Bihar, the builders even grabbed the land marked as grave yards of the minority community and local circle officers settled the land in the name of the builders. Another woman from Sitamarhi told CM, her neighbours have forcibly grabbed her residential plot.

A woman from Supaul told Nitish land gabbers deprived her of her ancestral land by fabricating papers in connivance with the local revenue officer. Two petitioners from Bhagalpur alleged the revenue inspectors manufactured false documents to deprive them of their land and sold it to others with fabricated documents.

Petitioners from Begusarai, Jahanabd and Kaimur districts also submitted documents before CM to substantiate their claim of ownership on the plots, but alleged they were put in the names of others by the revenue officers. Nitish Kumar after getting the papers in his weekly Darbar handed them to the officers of the department with comments of Dekh Lijiye (look into it).

According to the official data, Patna districts’s Bikram, Bihta and Dulhin Bazar blocks are on the top of land dispute cases, where over a dozen people were murdered last year.

Land of the state electricity board sub-station at Kankarbagh was also sold to a private builder and his name was put on the land records by the circle officer of Patna Sadar. District Magistrate later probed the forgery and got the circle officer and revenue inspector arrested.
