Will Nitish Kumar give up Bihar to RJD and work for non-BJP unity for the 2024 general elections?
He however gave overt signal soon after taking oath for the eight time as Chief Minister of Bihar on Wednesday. Nitish Kumar officially announced he would work for unity of opposition parties against BJP for 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Immediately after taking oath , Nitish said all opposition parties should unite. “I will work in this direction,” he said.
“My aim is to unite the opposition parties and make them stronger against the BJP. They came to power in 2014, but 2024 is not far, they may not,” he added.
According to Nitish, BJP of Narendra Modi is far different from BJP of Atal Bihari Vajpayee who loved opposition too. He claimed his aim was to unite the opposition and carry no wish to be the PM.
His comments today indicated he may allow Tejashwi to lead in Bihar and shift himself to the national politics.
Tejashwi, who took oath as Deputy Chief Minister along with Nitish Kumar, is leading the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) that is supporting Nitish Kumar who severed his alliance with BJP on Tuesday.
On Tuesday evening, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi individually telephoned to Nitish and wished him good luck as Chief Minister. A senior Congress leader recalled, “In 2008, Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Nitish Kumar were surveying the flood affected North Bihar following Kusaha dam disaster. Sonia had asked Bihar CM to join UPA.”
On Tuesday, the former Prime Minister, H D Deve Gowda while extending congratulations to Nitish had called for united front of the opposition parties.
