Patna, August 9
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today evening tendered his resignation from the post that also terminated his party JDU’s alliance again with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The JDU parliamentary board met today to take the final call and end the political turmoil in the state that finally erupted with the resignation of former Union Minister and JDU President RCP Singh. Before the meeting, Chairman of JDU Parliamentary Board Upendra Kushwaha said change was inevitable as his party inched towards RJD distancing from BJP. Kushwaha said today is August Kranti diwas and Bihar would lead a new path.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met Governor Fagu Chauhan today at 4 pm. He submitted his resignation as the Chief Minister of BJP-JDU alliance government. This is the third time he has deserted the BJP.
Kumar has submitted a letter to the Governor with the support of 160 MLAS and staked claim to form the government with the support of Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) to be led by Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Besides RJD, Congress and CPI would be the part of the alliance that Tejashwi would head.
According to sources, Governor is yet to take a decision on the claim.
Meanwhile, Chirag Paswan of Lok Jansakti Party (LJP) has demanded imposition of President’s rule in Bihar. He called for fresh election and dare Nitish Kumar to contest the elections all alone without any alliance. Paswan took a dig at JDU and Nitish Kumar, stating that it had never won any election of its own.
JDU, the largest largest party in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, is all set to form the government with Tejashwi likely to be the Deputy Chief Minister.
