The new NDA government in Bihar led by Nitish Kumar will seek a trust vote in the legislative assembly on February 10.
The JD(U) president, Nitish Kumar on Sunday took oath as Chief Minister of Bihar for a record ninth time after a dramatic political development. Kumar deserted the Mahagathbandhan and the opposition bloc INDIA. He formed the new government with the BJP, which he had left less than 18 months ago.
The government will seek the trust vote on the first day of the budget session after the customary address by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to both Houses of the legislature, a notification issued by the Parliamentary Affairs Department said.
The session will have a total of 12 working days. The notification said the state budget for the financial year 2024-25 will be presented on February 12.
Earlier, the new government moved a no-confidence motion against Bihar Assembly Speaker Awadh Bihari Chaudhary, in one of its first moves against the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The no-confidence motion against the Speaker would be taken up on the first day of the session if Chaudhary did not step down. It would then be followed by the floor test of the new government.
In the House of 243, the ruling alliance has 128 seats (BJP 78, JDU 45, HAMS 4 and one Independent MLA) while the Opposition Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) has 114 MLAs (RJD 79, Congress 19, CPIML 12, and two each from CPI and CPM). Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM has one legislator.
