Diverting from the NDA line, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday demanded a thorough investigation into the Pegasus reports.
Talking to media persons here at CM office, Nitish said opposition was demanding probe into the reports on Pegasus spying in India and Union Government should order a thorough probe. None has right to encroach upon a dignity and privacy of others, no one has authority to harass (pareshan) others.
Chief minister said, “Who was hearing, recording of conversation on mobile sets and must be investigated thoroughly?”
Truth will come out only after an appropriate investigation, he said. Telephone tapping is absolutely illegal, Nitish said.
Reporters asked him since there was a deadlock in the parliament as opposition was insisting on an investigation by the joint parliamentary committee, Nitish repeatedly said definitely, there must be a thorough probe to bring the truth before the public.
BJP, heading the NDA, is against any probe on spygate. This is the first time an NDA ally has joined the opposition chaos and supported the demand for probe into the Pegasus spyware scandal. The controversy had erupted after a consortium of 17 media houses across the world revealed that Pegasus spyware sold by Israel company NSO targeted human rights activists, journalists and lawyers across the world including in India.
Commenting on the claim of JDU Parliamentary Board Chairman Upendra Kushwaha that Nitish Kumar was a PM material, Nitish said, “I am very happy here, I have no further ambition.”
