The face of NMDC, Nikhat Zareen emerged as World Boxing Champion for the second year in a row.
Beating Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam in a closely fought match on Sunday, Nikhat Zareen brought home the Gold. At 26, she has become the only Indian Boxer to measure up to the legendary Mary Kom’s record of back-to-back Golds at IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.
NMDC’s CMD (Additional Charge) Amitava Mukherjee congratulated the company’s brand ambassador for her excellent display of grit and strength. “NMDC was closely following the journey of Ms Nikhat Zareen at the World Boxing Championship and it was a moment of overwhelming pride to witness her win and roar. It is an honour for the NMDC family to be part of her arduous journey to glory.”
“It’s a special day, a second World Championship gold, that too in a new weight category” said Nikhat Zareen after the match. Expressing her gratitude to NMDC, she said, “I am extremely thankful to NMDC for their constant support.”
Lauding its Brand Ambassador, NMDC said, the company is proud to be represented by someone who epitomizes strength and unstinted commitment to bring honour to the country. The 2022 Commonwealth Gold Medalist represents the hopes and aspirations of New India and NMDC is supporting her journey to the Asian Games in Hangzhou and the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
It was a dream run for NMDC this weekend and a coincidence that India’s mining giant surpassed 40 MnT iron ore production, consecutively alike Ms Zareen’s achievement. On 25 March 2023, NMDC recorded the highest ever single day production in company history – 2.34 lakh tonnes.
NMDC Director (Production) Dilip Kumar Mohanty said, “We take the greatest pride in our team’s unwavering spirit of service to the nation. NMDC has exceeded 40 Million Tonnes production for the second time in a row. Our unrelenting efforts to secure raw material supply prevailed over the highest ever annual rainfall.”
NMDC takes this opportunity to congratulate all the four gold medallists Ms Lovlina Borgohain, Ms Nitu Ghanghas, Ms Saweety Boora including Ms Nikhat Zareen for their outstanding achievement at the World Boxing Championship and securing first position for India in the medal tally.
