National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) had reiterated that it was committed to feed the Chhattisgarh industry.
The Chhattisgarh government had convened a high-level meeting to discuss the iron ore supply to the local steel makers. Chhattisgarh’s Principal Secretary (industry) Manoj Pingua, Mining Secretary Anbalagan P, Joint Secretary (industry) Anurag Pandey, Director (mining) J P Mourya and other top officials discussed the issue with the senior officials of the NMDC and the representatives of state industry.
The state industry had been raising the issue of steel making raw material and demanded enhancing the supply from the NMDC. Of the three mechanized mines that country’s largest iron ore had been operating, two are located in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district. Both the mines contribute a lion’s share to the company’s output.
Highly placed sources told News Riveting that NMDC officials told the state government that it was committed to provide “sufficient” quantities of iron ore to the facilities operating in Chhattisgarh. “The company officials said within 15 days, they would inform the state government about the quantity earmarked for the state units,” sources added.
The NMDC officials said the company had been focusing on enhancing the production. Once the Deposit-13 in Bailadila was commissioned, it would be a big leap forward to cater the raw material requirement of the Chhattisgarh industry. It would also facilitate company to increase the share of supply.
The Nagarnar Steel Plant of the company would also go on stream soon, the officials said.
