National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), country’s largest iron-ore producer and exporter, had accelerated the construction work of an oxygen plant at its Nagarnar Steel Plant (NSP) in Bastar.

The plant would be a big breather for the Bastar district administration in Chhattisgarh to fight the novel COVID-19 in the region. The Navratna company is setting up a 3 MTPA capacity greenfield Integrated Steel Plant based on Hi-Smelt technology in Nagarnar, located 16 km from Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh with an estimated outlay of Rs 21500 crore. The oxygen plant is part of the project.

Bastar District Collector Rajat Bansal along with senior officials of the administration today visited the NSP and inspected the on-going construction work of the oxygen plant. He held discussion with the top officials of the plant to design a work plan for the effective execution of the project. The NMDC had already accelerated the work.

The district authorities plan to feed the oxygen requirement of the medical college hospital and other health centres in the region from the NSP. “The district collector praised and expressed his gratitude towards NMDC management for providing 200 oxygen cylinders,” a district administration spokesperson said. At a time when oxygen cylinders had been in great demand, the assistance provided by the NMDC was of a big relief to the administration, he added.

Bansal, who also visited the NSP hospital that had been prepared to deal with COVID-19 crises, hoped that the NMDC would continue to assist the administration in combating the crises.
