NMDC’s fiscal onset feat, output up by 74 per cent

National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), the country’s largest Iron Ore producer, has recorded a spectacular performance in the production and sales for the month of April 2021.

The company produced 3.13 Million Tonnes (MT) of iron ore during the month as against 1.79 MT in April 2020, registering a growth of 74 per cent over corresponding period of last year (CPLY). This quantum is the highest for any April month since inception, surpassing the previous best of 2.98 MT produced in April 2017.

Iron ore sales stood at 3.09 MT as against 1.38 MT in April 2020, a growth of 125 per cent over CPLY.

The Bailadila projects at Chhattisgarh achieved 2.18 MT in April 2021, compared to last year’s production of 1.30 MT, registering a growth of 67 per cent. In April, 2.39 MT of iron ore was sold from Bailadila, 121 per cent of the 1.08 MT sold last April.

NMDC Chairman-cum-Managing Director Sumit Deb said, “We have begin the year with a rock solid performance for the month of April. It will set the tone for the rest of the year.”

It reflects the determination with which NMDC has worked in tough times and of a promising FY22 for iron ore, both domestically and internationally, Deb said, adding that the challenge for team NMDC would be to achieve the target of 42 MT production under these testing times. On the human side, the company stands with its employees and is providing all support facilities to combat this pandemic.
