Raipur, July 9

The Bharat Bandh called by the trade unions failed to inflict any impact on the production of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Chhattisgarh-based arm of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL).

The strike not only failed to affect SECL’s coal production but also increased the output in the first shift compared to the previous day, the company spokesperson said. Even more over burden removal (OBR) was also recorded on Wednesday.

Though the attendance of SECL employees was affected in the strike called by labour unions, but important operations like coal production and OBR remained unaffected. The attendance of employees was about 51 per cent in the first shift and 47 per cent in the second.

In the second shift, 19 out of 20 open mines of the company started functioning without any impact. In the second shift, about one-third of the underground mines were functioning normally while one-third was functioning partially affected and thus, in the second shift also, the attendance in UG mines was less than OC.

The spokesperson said in the first shift, the company produced 87,197 tonnes of coal, which was more than yesterday’s first shift production of 85,419 tonnes. The OBR discharge stood at 181970 million cubic metres which is higher than 1,32,433 MCuM of first shift yesterday.
