The special prohibition court of Lavkush Kumar, additional district and sessions judge of Gopalganj on Friday awarded capital punishment to nine people accused in the Bihar hooch tragedy.
Besides, the court also announced life term to four women accused involved in the illicit liquor sale that killed 19 people in Khajurbani locality of district headquarters.
On February 16, 2016, a year after introduction of total prohibition, local labourers had consumed illicit liquor. Next morning, 19 were found dead and six lost their eye sights
Court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on each of the convicted persons. The main accused Rupesh Shukla is absconding.
State government had sacked the entire staff of police’ station following the liquor tragedy. However, on February 7, 2021, Patna High Court quashed the government order and reinstated all.
