Now, Raipur police on different drive; protecting citizens from scorching heat

Chhattisgarh’s capital police are on a mission; besides protecting the citizens from the crimes, the cops are providing cover to the denizens to beat the scorching heat.

Even as the mercury level is touching over 45 Degree Celsius in Chhattisgarh’s capital city Raipur, the police have come out to give some respite to the people. On the initiative of traffic police, the tent house owners have set up a shed in all prominent squares in the city.

The initiative of the Raipur police, which is widely appreciated by the people, will provide a much-needed cover. It will facilitate, especially to the two-wheeler rider, to get shed while waiting at the signals combating the blistering temperature.

The Raipur police have displayed the same sensitivity while combating the crime in the district. Under the direction of Director General of Police Ashok Juneja and under the guidance of Inspector General of Police Raipur Amresh Mishra and Senior Superintendent of Police Raipur Santosh Singh, the campaign “Nijaat” has been launched against illegal drugs.

“Under Raipur Police’s Nijaat Abhiyan, the operation against drugs and narcotics started showing its effective effect in the form of reduction in crimes,” the police officials said. In the four months of the campaign, there was a 7 per cent reduction in total crimes under IPC as compared to the same period of previous years, the officials added.

There was a 5 per cent reduction in assault, 22 per cent in attempt to murder, 31 per cent in stabbing, 23 per cent in molestation and 5 per cent in theft. In a rapid action under the provisions of NDPS and Excise acts, 3,241 persons were grilled in 3,157 cases, in which 378 accused went to jail in non-bailable cases. Besides, 6,176 liters of liquor was seized.

Under the ongoing public awareness campaign against drugs, 3,41 programmes were conducted. Counseling of drug addicts is being done in police stations with the help of different social and welfare associations.
