NTPC arm NEEPCO to develop 2620 MW hydro projects in Arunachal

North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), a 100 per cent subsidiary of power giant NTPC limited, inked a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for the development of 2620 MW hydro projects in the state.

The MoA was signed in Itanagar on Saturday. Under the agreement, NEEPCO and other central PSUs will develop 12 stalled Hydro Electric Projects in the State, the ministry of power said.

The NTPC spokesperson said the development of the projects would contribute towards attaining the declared Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target of achieving 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity in India by 2030. Hydro Power will also be an effective contributor to the objective of achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by the year 2070.

The projects are also expected to create huge employment opportunities in the region and boost the local economy as well as foster skill development and technical expertise in the region. The projects will entail an investment of Rs 1,26,500 crore in Arunachal Pradesh.

Minister of Power R K Singh, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Chowna Mein, NTPC Chairman and Managing Director Gurdeep Singh along with other officials were present on the occasion.
