The Board of Directors of power major NTPC Limited has given its nod for starting stage two of the Lara Super Thermal Power Project located in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district.
The stage two project is part of the expansion plan of the station that has an installed capacity of 4000 MW with five units of 800 MW each. Similar to the stage one, the stage two project will have 1600 MW capacity and will entail an investment of over Rs 15,500 crore.
“We wish to inform that the Board of Directors of the Company has accorded investment approval for Lara Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-II (2×800 MW) at an appraised current estimated cost of Rs. 15,529.99 crore,” NTPC Limited said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.
The first and second units of 800 MW each under stage one project were commissioned In September 2019 and July 2020 respectively. However, the stipulated time of the completion of the second stage could not be known.
The NTPC Limited has acquired a total of 2400 acres of land to accommodate the plant, township and ash dyke of Lara STPP. While approximately 1400 acres land is under the utilization for construction
of Stage-I units, ancillary facilities, ash disposal area, township and remaining shall be used for Stage-II units.
Coal requirement for Lara STPP, Stage-II (2×800 MW) would be about 7.0 million tonne per annum (MTPA) at 90 per cent Plant Load Factor (PLF) and shall be met from the Talaipalli coal block allotted to NTPC.
