The installed capacity of the country’s largest power producer and state-run National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) had crossed 64,000 Mw.
The company commenced commercial operations for the Kameng Hydro-Electric Project, a part North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (a wholly-owned subsidiary company of NTPC Ltd), effective Friday. With this, the commissioned and commercial capacity of NTPC group has reached 64,075 MW.
Kameng hydroelectric project is situated in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. The project comprises two dams, Bichom and Tenga and the water flow of the rivers Bichom and Tenga, both tributaries of Kameng, are utilized for electricity generation.
Though the CCEA clearance for the project was obtained in December 2004 at Rs.2496.90 crores with a five years period for its completion, its commissioning got delayed due to several reasons.
With a total installed capacity of 64,075 MW, NTPC Group has 71 Power stations including 28 Renewable projects. The group has over 20 GW of capacity under construction, including 5 GW of renewable energy projects.
