NTPC Northern Region Headquarters celebrates 79th Independence Day

NTPC Northern Region Headquarters (NRHQ) celebrated the 79th Independence Day at Lucknow on August 15, 2025 with a patriotic spirit.

Goutam Deb, Regional Executive Director (North), hoisted the tri-color flag and paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom.

In his address, Deb highlighted NTPC’s remarkable journey and its pivotal role in India’s progress over the past 50 years. He noted that NTPC contributes 25 per cent of the nation’s total power generation. From its first project in Singrauli to becoming India’s largest power producer, NTPC has grown in step with the country’s development. Today, the company’s installed capacity stands at more than 82 GW across diversified sources—coal, gas, hydro, solar, wind, nuclear, and biomass. He reaffirmed NTPC’s commitment to sustainable energy, aiming for a total capacity of 130 GW by 2032, including 60 GW from non-fossil sources.

Deb also shared that the Northern Region is NTPC’s largest operational region, generating power through thermal, hydro, and solar plants. Notable achievements of NTPC-North Region this year include: Generating 27 per cent of NTPC’s total power output till August 2025, commissioning the NOKH solar project, Rihand and Singrauli securing 3rd and 5th place respectively in NTPC’s Thermal PLF rankings with PLFs of 87.73 per cent and 85.23 per cent, and Dadri, Jhajjar, and Rihand leading in ash utilization, with NR achieving 84 per cent utilization.

The RED (North) underscored NTPC’s focus on safety with the vision of a “Zero Harm” workplace and environmental stewardship, including the plantation of over 2 lakh saplings in FY 2025.

The Northern Region is also actively engaged in CSR activities, especially in healthcare, rural infrastructure, and the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM). Shri Deb appreciated the Welfare Wing of NTPC-NRHQ—Uttara Club—for organizing impactful welfare initiatives including the Employee Welfare Association.

To mark the occasion, the Uttra club distributed five motorized tricycles to differently-abled beneficiaries under CSR led by Smt Bipasa Deb ,President and Smt Smt. Sangita Singha Ray, Vice President,Uttra Club.

To mark the occasion special, employees and family members were awarded with Medha Pratiyogita awards. The celebration concluded with the release of tri-colour balloons, symbolizing pride, unity, and the spirit of independence and employees.
