One of the oldest plants of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) located in Chhattisgarh has bagged a prestigious safety award instituted by the state government.
NTPC Korba has been awarded with the prestigious Maharaja Ramanuraj Pratap Singhdev Memorial “Shram Yashasvi Puruskar 2020 – 2021” for safety measures and efforts undertaken by NTPC Korba management for its robust safety standards. Executive Director of NTPC Korba Biswaroop Basu received the award from Governor Anusuiya Uikey and Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at Rajyotsava—a event organised in the capital to celebrate Chhattisgarh’s foundation day.
Korba power station is the first-generation power plant of the country’s largest power producer that started commercial production of its first unit in 1983. It has three units of 200 MW each and four of 500 MW each. The achievement in safety after 38 years of operations is a testimony of NTPC’s better operation and maintenance practices.
NTPC Korba spokesperson said the company was committed towards safety and gave paramount importance to upholding the safety standards. NTPC is a shining example of upholding the parameters of excellence and every employee strives to deliver their best.
The station has surpassed all previous records and has positioned itself as the best performing station of NTPC Limited with generation of 21332.59 million units of electricity with 93.66 per cent plant load factor (PLF) in the financial year 2020-21. This is the highest since the inception and ranked second place in the country. The unit-2 of Korba station has achieved an annual PLF of 100.06 percent even after 38 years of service.
