NTPC’s oldest plant in Korba on record-breaking spree

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC)’s oldest station in Korba had added another feather to its cap in terms of performance.

Surpassing all previous records, NTPC Korba has positioned itself as the best performing station of NTPC Limited with generation of 21332.59 million units of electricity with 93.66 per cent plant load factor (PLF) in the financial year 2020-21. This is the highest since the inception and ranked second place in the country.

Korba Super Thermal Power Station with installed capacity of 2600 MW, is one of the first phase power stations of power major NTPC limited. Having seven units in its kitty, there are 3 units of 200 MW and 4 units of 500 MW. The major contribution behind the feat, unit-2 of Korba station achieved an annual PLF of 100.06 percent even after 37 years of service.

The achievement after 38 years of operations stands testimony to NTPC’s better operation and maintenance practices that help to serve the country by providing a necessary service that is electricity for nation building.

Chief General Manager Biswarup Basu and General Manager (Operation and Maintenance) P Ram Prasad had attributed the attainment to the dedicated team work of team NTPC Korba. Since the beginning of the just concluded financial year, the Korba station had been registering strong operating and financial performance in each quarter that powered for the overall success in the fiscal.

Based on its performance, Korba station had been awarded as best power station under 500 megawatt unit by Mission Energy Foundation and Greentech Award for its environment protection measures.
