NTPC’s oldest plant in Korba tops production slot

One of the oldest plants of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited, Korba station under Western Region II had secured first position in the country with 97.61 per cent plant load factor (PLF) in the quarter ended June 2021.

According to the report published by Central Electricity Authority of India (CEA), NTPC Korba generated 5542.629 million units with 97.61 percent PLF, registering an increase of 1.12 percent from 5480.808 million units generated in the first quarter of the last financial year. The 38-year-old plant had been on a record-breaking spree and reported outstanding performance in the last fiscal.

Surpassing all previous records, NTPC Korba positioned itself as the best performing station of NTPC Limited by generating 21332.59 million units of electricity with 93.66 per cent plant load factor (PLF) in the financial year 2020-21. This was the highest since the inception and ranked second place in the country.

The first-generation power plant of the country’s largest power producer, Korba power station, started commercial production of its first unit in 1983. It has three units of 200 Mw each and four of 500 Mw each. “The achievement after 38 years of operations is a testimony of NTPC’s better operation and maintenance practices which helps to serve the country by providing continuous power supply for nation building,” company spokesperson for WR II said.

With an installed capacity of 66085-megawatt capacity, recently NTPC group achieved 100 billion units’ generation in the current financial year and Korba station has a major contribution to reach this milestone.

Biswarup Basu, Executive Director and P Ram Prasad, General Manager (Operation and Maintenance) attributed the feat to the dedicated team work of NTPC Korba with adapting ethical work culture.

Regional Executive Director RED (WEST II) Sanjay Madan congratulated Team Korba on the achievement and stated that it had always shown exemplary performance and the achievement is a standing testimony to it.

WR II of NTPC consists of 3 stations at Chhattisgarh namely Sipat, Korba and Lara and 2 at Madhya Pradesh at Gadarwara and Khargone Besides securing top position for power generation, Korba station awarded by renowned certifying agencies like Confederation of Indian Industries, Mission Energy Foundation, Greentech and Social Audit 8000
