A vintage plant of state-run National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), located in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, has set a record in operational efficiency.

The 2600-Mw power station of NTPC continued its journey as the best performing power station in the country for consecutive first and second quarter of the financial year 2020-2021.

In the quarter ended September 2020, NTPC Korba generated 5580.86 million units with outstanding 97.17 percent plant load factor (PLF) — which is a key parameter for the evaluation of the performance of any thermal plant

Maintaining social distancing and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) while running the station during COVID pandemic, the 37-year-old plant was ranked as the best power station in the country with 96.87 percent PLF from a period between April and September.

“It was the untiring effort of employees and timely maintenance of all units that brought the feat,” Ashwini Kumar Tripathy, Executive Director of NTPC Korba, said.

The first-generation power plant of the country’s largest power producer, Korba power station started commercial production of its first unit in 1983. It has three units of 200 Mw each and four of 500 Mw each.

One of the stations of NTPC that produces power at the cheapest rate, Korba station has been illuminating many states that include Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Daman, Diu and Nagar Haveli, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar.

Over the years, Korba station has been ranking among top stations in performance, strengthening the company’s portfolio.

The plant has received a Meritorious Performance Award from the Government of India about 20 times and has been a model power station in operation and maintenance.
