Raipur, September 12
The Odisha government has agreed to release water from the Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur to avoid flooding in the submergence area in Chhattisgarh.
Due to heavy rains every year, more than two dozen villages of Chhattisgarh had to face the disaster of flood due to coming in the submergence area of Hirakud Dam. This year, due to the presence of public-friendly governments that give priority to public welfare in both Chhattisgarh and Odisha, for the first time, quick decisions are being taken and works are being done in public interest with unprecedented coordination between the two states.
Such coordination between the governments of the two states is being seen for the first time, the result of which is that the areas in both the states that used to be severely flooded every year are currently not suffering from the disaster of floods.
The result came on the initiative of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. Taking immediate initiative in view of the possibility of flood in the villages of Raigarh under the submergence areas of Hirakud Dam due to continuous rains for the last few days, Sai discussed with Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi last night and requested him to release water from Hirakud Dam so that the possible disaster of flood can be avoided.
A state government spokesperson said on the initiative of Sai, Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi immediately ordered the release of the required amount of water from Hirakud Dam so that the villagers can be saved from the possible loss of life and property in more than two dozen villages. The decision was taken keeping in mind the interests of both the states.
Sai has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi for the sensitive initiative.
