The total number of cases of the Omicron variant in India rose to 578 on Monday, recording an increase of about 37 per cent compared to Sunday.
The National Capital surpassed Maharashtra with 142 cases of Omicron reported, a single day surge of 63 cases. The number of cases in Maharashtra increased by 33 to 141 on Monday, the health ministry bulletin said.
Of the total cases, 151 have been discharged, migrated and recovered.
Meanwhile, 6,987 new cases and 7091 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours. The active caseload currently stands at 76,766, while the recovery rate stands at 98.40 per cent, highest since March 2020.
In all, 141.37 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
Omicron is spreading fast in India too and two more states were affected within last 24 hours. In all, 19 states have been affected so far with the variant of concern.
