The skyrocketing price of onions finally found space in the Bihar elections as some miscreants hurled the commodity at Chief Minister and JDU national president Nitish Kumar on Tuesday at Harlakhi in Madhubani district of North Bihar.
Kumar was addressing an election meeting and had narrowly escaped an onion attack even as irrigation minister Sanjay Kumar Jha alleged that there was an attempt on the life of the chief minister.
While CM was campaigning and speaking about the performance of his government, a section of the youth audience started shouting anti-Nitish slogans. It further aggravated when CM asked the slogan shouting people to ask the person who was promising one million government jobs, how many jobs were given when they were in power for 15 years.
He said, “Only 95.000 jobs in 15 years, they gave. They are deceiving them by promising one million jobs. Do not get trapped by them.”
As he finished the sentence, someone from the audience started pelting onions on the chief minister, one of which missed the head of Nitish Kumar. Jawans from the CM security team immediately jumped on the stage and covered him from the front.
Nitish repeatedly said, “Phekno, Aur Phenko (throw, pelt more).”
However, security personnel continued to guard him. CM continued his speech and claimed in the last 15 years of NDA rule he had given protection for the STs/SCs and OBCs and given them reservations in jobs.
He directed the police to leave those pelting objects on him free and do not disturb them.
Jungle Raj were responsible for the attack since they cannot throw Nitish Kumar out of power through votes, they are conspiring to physically harm him. It was an attempt to murder him, Jha alleged.
This was one of the 12 attacks on Nitish Kumar in his campaign meetings started with Rafiganj in Aurangabad district. He was hooted at Parsa in Saran last week while addressing an election meeting of JDU candidate Chandrika Rai.
Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi too faced voters at a school polling booth here. Modi broke the queue and went straight to the polling booth that angered those already standing in the line since early morning. They booed Modi, who is also a voter, in the same booth.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the JDU led by the information and public relations minister, Neeraj Kumar today submitted a memorandum to the chief election officer here demanding cancellation of nominations of the RJD candidates from Raghopur and Hasanpur-Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Tejpratap Yadav.
They said the two candidates had violated the provisions of the Representation of People’s Act section 123(2) as they concealed vital information about their assets.
The memorandum said two candidates did not disclose the details of the real estates in their affidavits filed before the returning officers. They should be prosecuted, JDU demanded.
