New Delhi, December 14

The major opposition political parties minus Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) today gathered on the invitation of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and discussed about the joint strategy in Parliament.

The move is seen as a big jolt to Mamata Banerjee who has been eyeing to lead the opposition parties without Congress. The Chief Minister of West Bengal has been at loggerheads with the Congress and had recently claimed there was no United Progressive Alliance (UPA) that the grand-old party was leading against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Besides NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, J&K National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and DMK leader T R Baalu were among the prominent leaders who met Gandhi at her 10, Janpath residence. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also present in the meeting.

The leaders hinted that more such meetings would be held in the next few days, in a bid to bring all opposition forces together.

The agenda of the meeting was to revoke the suspension of 12 MPs of Rajya Sabha, which has led to an impasse in parliament. The TMC was not invited to the meeting despite its members figure in the suspension list.

Sharad Pawar has been assigned to speak with Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu to find a solution to the deadlock.
