Mrs Chhaya Mishra, a leading woman lawyer of Bihar and Vice President of Advocates Association on Saturday requested the Bihar government to introduce pension scheme for elderly advocates.
In a letter to the state Law Minister, Nitin Nabin, she said government should sanction a minimum Rs 15,000 per month as pension to the lawyers after they attain an age of 65.
She also suggested the state government in coordination with the bar associations should launch a health insurance scheme for advocates and their families. Government should reimburse 85 per cent of the annual premium for a Rs 10 lakhs annual health insurance.
Mrs Chhaya Mishra said states like Kerala, Rajasthan and Jharkhand had started stipend schemes for the young lawyers. Jharkhand cabinet on Friday sanctioned a scheme of Rs 5,000 per month stipend for advocates in their initial stages of practice. Bihar government should also help the budding advocates, she exhorted.
